The SurgeArrest surge suppression product line now includes
The SurgeArrest surge suppression product line now includes panelmount surge protection devices (SPDs). The panelmount SPDs can be installed at the AC electrical service entrance, branch panels or near critical equipment to protect homes, commercial facilities or light industrial buildings from damage caused by externally generated power surges and spikes, including lightning. The new product line has surge capacity ratings that range from 40kA (kiloamperes) to 160kA per phase.

The 40kA panelmount SPD is compact and will fit inside most residential circuit breaker panels. This unit has an LED status indicator for easy monitoring that lets users know "at a glance" when suppression circuitry has been damaged by a heavy strike or surge. These SPDs also utilize thermal disconnect methodology to provide state of the art safety and reliability. The 80kA panelmount SPD unit mounts directly to the outside of the load distribution panel and has LED status indicators for each phase. The 120kA and 160kA SPDs feature audible alarm and tri-color LED status indicators for immediate failure notification as well as EMI/RFI filtration for suppression of electrical noise. A surge counter and electrical disconnect are also available as options. Most units have field replaceable modules for quick corrective maintenance.

The entire 40kA to 160kA panelmount SPD product line is designed for nearly all light industrial and datacenter applications, covering the most popular voltages with off-the-shelf availability. These units are UL1449 2nd edition and cUL listed, are equipped with overcurrent protection, offer low let-through voltages and come with a 5-year limited product warranty.

Panelmount SPDs, or transient voltage surge suppressors (TVSS), do not eliminate the need for "point of use" protection, but should be used in conjunction with other power quality products, such as APC's surge suppressors and uninterruptible power supplies, for maximum protection from the vast range of potential power disturbances. A qualified and licensed electrician should complete the installation of all SPD units.
