Furseweld Exothermic Welding System Rounds Out Grounding Connection Solutions from Thomas & Betts

MEMPHIS, Tennessee, June 2, 2000-Thomas & Betts has added the Fursewelde Exothermic Welding System to its offering of grounding connection products, making it the industry's only single-source supplier of mechanical, compression and exothermic welding connection solutions.

A portable, self-contained method of forming high-quality grounding connections, the Furseweld system requires no external power or heat source. The majority of connections have at least twice the cross-sectional area of the conductors being joined, and an equivalent or greater current carrying capacity. With a copper content in excess of 90%, Furseweld connectors offer exceptional corrosion resistance and will withstand repeated fault currents.

The comprehensive system includes connectors for cable to cable, cable to ground rod and cable to steel fabrications. Welding powder, graphite molds and all necessary tools and accessories are also included in the line.

A representative range of Furseweld connections have been successfully tested in accordance with the requirements of the IEEE 837-1989-Standard for Qualifying Permanent Connections Used in Substation Grounding. Testing in accordance with UL and CSA requirements is due for completion in 2000.
