Raycap's SPD Simultaneously Protects The Facility And Extends The Operating Life Of The Equipment

Morrisville, NC - Raycap Inc., a leader in transient voltage surge suppression technology, has developed a surge protection device (SPD) that provides continuous protection from lightning, temporary over-voltage and other transient voltage activity. Designed to protect the facility as well as the equipment inside, Strikesorb modules can be installed at the building service entrance or anywhere critical equipment is connected. Strikesorb modules can be directly connected onto the busbar on the load side of a circuit breaker, eliminating the need to install additional interconnection wires, circuit breakers or fuses, providing low let-through voltages to the equipment. Strikesorb modules can also be installed via a T - connection.

"The Strikesorb surge protection device provides uninterrupted protection and is designed to withstand repeated surges, even under harsh conditions," said Jeff Gibbons, VP Sales and Marketing at Raycap Inc. "Strikesorb modules can extend the operating life of the equipment as it is never left unprotected from transient voltage."

The Strikesorb module is designed to meet the stringent requirements of the international IEC 61643-1 standard and the recently (2007) revised UL-1449 (2nd edition) standard without the use of fuses. Fuses used in other surge protection devices can compromise the protection capabilities of TVSS systems. Furthermore, equipment that features the Strikesorb module does not need further UL 1449 testing in order to meet UL Listing requirements, saving equipment manufacturers time and money.

Strikesorb's unique construction - comprised of a single large distribution-grade metal oxide varistor (MOV) disc in a hermetic aluminum housing - provides uniform distribution of the surge current over the total area of the MOV protection element. This results in a high-energy handling capability combined with ultra-low let-through voltage to the protected equipment.
