APC offers 2MW UPS Solutions

The new UPS is specifically for Internet infrastructure, datacenter and enterprise applications in a footprint up to 40 percent smaller than other legacy UPS systems.

APC by Schneider Electric (West Kingston, RI) expanded Delta Conversion On-line technology series of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) for Internet infrastructure, datacenter and enterprise applications with the introduction of the APC Silcon 400 and 500 kVA/kW units. These scaleable UPS systems can be combined to provide a redundant two-megawatt UPS solution that is up to 40 percent smaller than other legacy UPS solutions.

The new Silcon 400 and 500 units are also offered with a same-day, four-hour response time service that guarantees a technician on-site within four hours. APC is offering its response time service with the modular design of the Delta Conversion technology to expedite the mean time to repair (MTTR) and proactively help ensure overall system availability.

"This technology offers advantages – it's modular design, coupled with our four-hour response time service gives large Internet datacenters and service providers the ability to diagnose problems and be up and running faster than ever before," said Dwight Sperry, general manager of APC's Enterprise Systems and Services Group. "Availability is tantamount to survival in today's business environment."

The APC Silcon is rated for full input and output in kW which is designed to support new, high power factor computer loads and provide 20 to 30 percent more power protection capacity than double-conversion UPSs, even when loaded to only 50 percent of the unit's capacity. Unlike double-conversion UPSs, Delta Conversion On-line efficiency reduces heat loss, which in turn minimizes the stress on UPS components and increases the reliability of the unit.

Additionally, the scalability of the product is ideal for growing companies. A two-megawatt parallel configuration that contains four modules has a footprint that is approximately 40 percent smaller than an equivalent configuration of typical legacy double conversion systems. However, if two megawatts is not substantial enough for an installation, the Silcon Delta Conversion On-line UPS can be easily paralleled up to nine units delivering an installation 4.5 MW.

Other unique features of the new Silcon units include unity power factor output and updated Web-based management.
