Eaton's Advanced Monitored ePDU Products Allow IT Managers To Track Power Consumption At The Receptacle Level
Raleigh, NC - Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation recently announced the availability of its Advanced Monitored ePDU products, adding to its full line of enclosure power distribution technologies. Eaton's Advanced Monitored ePDU products provide Information Technology (IT) managers the ability to monitor, track and manage power consumption at the receptacle level for all equipment in the data center. The data captured can be used to evaluate energy efficiency and infrastructure capacity.
Skyrocketing energy costs, growth restrictions in data centers and ongoing pressure to maximize energy efficiency and reduce power consumption are key issues facing today's IT managers. In order to contribute to an overall energy management strategy, accurate, real-time information on power usage is essential for making decisions in the data center.
Eaton's Advanced Monitored function is specifically designed to measure power consumption at the equipment level. Each individual receptacle is enabled with an advanced current measurement device providing real-time current data via a local display or through a network connection.

Eaton's line of ePDU products, with eight function levels, allows users to effectively measure power usage and temperature at the system, chassis or rack level. With Advanced Monitored ePDU products, Eaton gives its customers the option to build the units to suit their specific equipment and growth strategy in the data center. The Advanced Monitored units have https and SNMP communication capabilities to allow for flexibility in implementation.
"One of Eaton's customers has a 20-rack data center comprised of servers from different manufacturers. Each server processes information for different divisions within the organization. The IT department needed to allocate all expenses, including the power and cooling bill," said Camesano. "To make this possible, they needed visibility at the equipment and outlet level. With receptacle-level control from the Advanced Monitored ePDU, the IT department could track the power consumption within their data center per device, know which devices were in service per division in the organization and appropriately allocate costs to their internal customers."
