Get Up To Code With New Receptacles From Cooper Wiring Devices

Peachtree City, GA - Cooper Wiring Devices, a division of Cooper Industries, announced several new additions to its lines of Tamper-Resistant, Weather- Resistant and the combined Tamper- & Weather-Resistant Receptacles. The new receptacles fully comply with 2008 NEC code requirements as stated in sections 406.8 (wet and damp locations) and 406.11 (tamper-resistant receptacles) for weather, tamper and combined weather & tamper-resistant receptacles.

A new line of Weather-Resistant Receptacles provides safety in wet, damp, harsh and abusive environments. Weather-Resistant Receptacles are designed to offer protection against rain, snow, ice, moisture, humidity and dust in any residential or commercial outdoor location when properly installed in an approved weather protective cover. The receptacles are designed with enhanced engineered plastic and corrosion resistant metal components for extra durability. Applications include residential decks, porches and yards, pool and spa areas, outdoor venues and public areas, commercial vending machines, and convenience outlets.

Tamper-Resistant Receptacles keep children safe from electrical injury, and provide better protection than traditional receptacles with removable plastic safety caps and other types of safety products. The UL-listed safety shutter system allows only 2-prong or 3-prong plugs to be inserted in the outlet, preventing the risk of serious electrical shock from the insertion of dangerous foreign objects. Tamper-Resistant Receptacles are perfect for residential homes, apartment buildings, extended stay hotels, assisted living facilities and retirement communities.

To meet code requirements and to ensure combined safety and weather-protection in wet or damp outdoor locations, Cooper Wiring Devices has also added a new line of Tamper- & Weather-Resistant Receptacles. These new receptacles combine tamper-resistant features with weather-resistant components to provide the ultimate offering of safety and outdoor protection. Cooper's Tamper- & Weather-Resistant Receptacles are ideal for pool and spa areas, patios, decks, basements and garages, and exteriors of residential homes and structures.

"Our Tamper- and Weather-Resistant Receptacles provide the latest advancements in safety and outlet protection," said Jim Vaccaro, Product Manager, Commercial Products, Cooper Wiring Devices. "They ensure safety in and outside of your home or business, in the harshest of environments."

Increased efforts to develop safer electrical receptacles is, in large part, the reason new requirements were added to the 2008 National Electrical Code® (NEC)* under section 406.11, Tamper-Resistant Receptacles in Dwelling Units. The new code states that all receptacles installed in new dwelling units must be tamper-resistant.
