Founded by Norwegian Industrialist Jac Jacobsen in 1937, Luxo ASA (known as Jac Jacobsen AS until 1966) pioneered the development of portable, individually adjustable, desktop lighting products that employed a unique counterbalanced arm mechanism. That original task light design, named the Luxo L-1 because of the "luxurious" quality of its highly directional light, was an immediate commercial and aesthetic success.

Today, business historians and lighting professionals often regard the L-1 as "the light that changed the world". Not only does this fixture, and the family of portable, adjustable task lighting products it spawned, sell worldwide, but the L-1 remains the most imitated task light in the world.

Luxo Corporation, the North American manufacturing and marketing arm of Luxo ASA, headquartered in Port Chester, New York, has been in operation since 1953 and continues to introduce a wide range of innovative lighting products.

With the introduction of many families of indirect luminaires, Luxo became a unified resource for two-component lighting--task and ambient fixtures that work in concert to eliminate glare. A two-component approach to office lighting successfully combines ambient indirect with portable, adjustable task lighting to create a glare- and shadow-free environment; one that supports frequent VDT use, while meeting the "comfort" needs of individual users and visitors to the space.

Luxo Corporation recently introduced the Designer Series family of wall sconces and ceiling pendants, which combine original contemporary design, high quality and value.

Luxo is also a major supplier of industrial and medical products.
