Mott MacDonald Acquires Careba Power Engineers

Westwood, MA - Mott MacDonald, a management, engineering and development consulting firm serving the public and private sectors worldwide, has acquired engineering firm Careba Power Engineers based in Westwood, MA. Mott MacDonald, headquartered in Croydon, England, is a wholly independent, employee-owned company with annual revenues of $1.2B, 10,000 staff and work in over 100 countries.

Formed in 2001, Careba has approximately 50 staff with annual revenues of nearly $7M. To be known as Careba Mott MacDonald, the new company will join Mott MacDonald's North American energy team based in Boston, Massachusetts, working on a range of power generation, electrical transmission and distribution, and renewable energy projects.

Careba has extensive experience in the engineering and design of major power generation projects including gas fired, wind, biomass, biodiesel, and coal fired projects, as well as high voltage distribution and transmission projects for power plant operators, power plant developers, industrial facility operators, equipment manufacturers, contractors and power distribution utilities. Careba serves clients throughout the US and internationally, including projects in the Middle East and Asia.

Mott MacDonald is a world-class consulting firm delivering solutions that add value to many areas of everyday life – from energy, transportation, building, water and the environment to health and education, industry and communications. The company has a global reputation for excellence in power generation with in-depth experience in all technologies – gas, oil and coal fired generation, hydroelectric power, wind energy, energy from biomass and waste, geothermal energy and other sources – as well as expertise in transmission and distribution. Around the world Mott MacDonald serves national and local governments, health and education authorities, transport operators, industry, utilities, developers, contractors, commercial companies, banks, funding agencies and non-governmental organizations.

Both companies believe that uniting the complementary skills and resources of the two businesses will bring benefits and enhance the services they offer to their respective customers. "Careba Power Engineers provides us with a strong base in North America's power sector, helping us to expand our energy business there alongside our existing North American company Hatch Mott MacDonald, which operates in transportation and water," said Mott MacDonald Chairman Mike Blackburn.

Careba Power Engineers Principal Larry Sullivan is delighted that the company is joining the Mott MacDonald Group. "With the backing of a global partner, we will be able to expand faster than we could on our own, bringing considerable benefits to our customers and our staff," he said. "For our energy industry customers it will mean we will be able to offer a total project capability, drawing on the complementary skills of the wider Mott MacDonald Group. For our staff it will bring opportunities to work on a more diverse range of projects both in the US and elsewhere in the world."
