NECA Releases New Wiring Device Installation Standard

NECA 130-2010, Standard for Installing and Maintaining Wiring Devices is now available from the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). This new standard describes installation and maintenance procedures for low-voltage wiring devices permanently installed on building premises wiring systems for residential, commercial, and industrial applications in non-hazardous (unclassified) locations, such as for convenience receptacles, lighting switches, disconnect switches, and fixed, stationary or portable electric signs. NECA 130 is the latest new publication in the National Electrical Installation Standards series published by NECA.

Installing wiring devices, including outlets, switches, motion sensing devices and lampholders, is a critical step in completing a safe and successful electrical installation. This latest NEIS was developed to provide consistent correlation between owner expectations regarding wiring performance and quality.

The standard provides valuable information related to the different device installation that helps to ensure reliable service and dependability of those wiring devices installed as part of the electrical system. NECA 130-2010 also provides exceptional value to designers and those writing construction specifications due to the built-in workmanship aspects addressed within this performance standard.
