Five IEC languages assure greater programming flexibility, lower costs

CONCEPT V2.5, the latest version of Schneider Electric's award-winning IEC programming software for PLCs, incorporates a number of significant advances, including the ability to upload IEC programs without having the original source code in the PC, improved hot standby capabilities, and IEC offline memory prediction.

Fully compliant with IEC 61131-3, CONCEPT software provides a multi-language development environment for control system programming. Simple to use, this universal system delivers optimal software performance while minimizing configuration, programming and maintenance costs. Familiar, standardized editors are bundled in a single application, making it easy to create and integrate PLC control, communication and diagnostic logic.

The five IEC editors – Function Block Diagram (FBD), Ladder Diagram (LD), Sequential Function Chart (SFC), Structured Text (ST) and Instruction List (IL) – built into CONCEPT allow users to choose the programming language that best fits their application requirements.

The software and documentation are available in English, French, German and Spanish on a single CD and come with one year of free technical support and software updates. Broad-based industry acceptance of IEC 61131-3 as a standard provides a common foundation that assures optimal flexibility between programs as well as the interoperability to work between vendors.

CONCEPT software allows programmers to upload IEC programs and all tagnames in the PLC by simply turning on a preference in the code menu. Objects can be reused by creating standard libraries of Derived Function Blocks (DFBs), written in any of the IEC languages. If a particular algorithm or standard piece of control logic needs to be modified, the change is performed once and the software automatically upgrades each copy of the DFB, simplifying software maintenance.

Programming is streamlined because users can export or import complete projects, sections, variable list or configuration information from or to other CONCEPT applications. Built-in testing and diagnostic simulation tools also help users achieve significantly faster results in every phase of application development, from specification to implementation.

CONCEPT can be used to program any of four Schneider PLC platforms – QUANTUM®, MOMENTUMTM, COMPACTTM or ATRIUMTM.
